Rules
The challenge runs under the following rules, intended to ensure fairness, accessibility, and scientific integrity.
Each participant and team member must (a) be an individual or a group of no more than 4; (b) have internet access, an email account, and a personal computer; and (c) have no conflict of interest with the organizing team.
To be prize-eligible, the entry must (a) be in English, compatible with the submission format, and the team's own original work; (b) not have been submitted previously in any promotion; and (c) not include illegal, infringing, or otherwise prohibited content.
The participant or team must:
Transfer_policy class, model weights, a .zip code archive with seeds, and a dependency manifest;A participant or team may be disqualified for (a) ineligibility or violation of items 1 and 2; (b) creating multiple accounts; (c) submitting non-reproducible code archives; or (d) submitting code with hard-coded references to held-out building configurations or weather seeds.
Entries are judged via the regret-based reward and ranked on the Kaggle leaderboard; the private leaderboard determines winner selection.
To keep the competition accessible to less-resourced teams: each rollout must complete within 10× the bang-bang baseline runtime on the standardized evaluation hardware; model artifacts are capped at 4 GB per submission; and submissions must run on a single GPU (RTX 4090 or smaller) without distributed inference.
Participants may reach the organizers via the Kaggle Discussion board and the dedicated organizers' email listed on this website. Updates to rules, deadlines, and clarifications are posted on the Kaggle competition page and announced on the discussion board.
Open globally to individuals and teams (up to 4 members) from academia, industry, or independent backgrounds. No prior expertise in HVAC or building science is required, and all necessary tools and documentation are provided. Subject to applicable laws; some regions may be restricted by Kaggle's platform Terms of Service.
